About Fiannor
I have a day job but escape by playing WoW. I love playing a hunter, and my Lake Wobegonian goal is to become "above average" at it.

  1. What are “AAA” games?
My take is twofold: one, I want my professional life with my FB contacts to be very separate from my fantasy gaming life — people judge you by looking at your social media. Two, I know that my own body is being tracked on my phone and my location is being shared — how strange will it be when my “in game” character is being tracked! Micro-transactions based on where you are in Azeroth, offered live, and they “know” me: my spending habits, my gender, my education level. How very odd.

AAA games are the top end computer games, the ones with very intensive and high-end development and major promotion campaigns. Historically these have been the ones that can only be played on a PC, but obviously with high end gaming consoles, that really no longer holds. I think it is sort of a soft definition, the actual line as to where a game becomes AAA is a bit fuzzy. But it’s useful to differentiate a game like WoW from, say, Candy Crush.

I totally share your view on separating various aspects of your life. As I said, that is why I will not be participating in FB login or later in streaming/posting live from the game.
